If you’ve taken a lot of time to reflect and you know what makes you happy and what a meaningful career opportunity means to you, that’s fantastic! You’re developing a grey mindset, but you’re not actually living in the grey yet.

To live in the grey you have to act because actions trump intentions.

One roadblock you might be facing is that you’re not sure which path to take when it comes to living what you love. Here’s a great response from Ramit Sethi to that common dilemma:

Takeaways:

“You can’t think your way to clarity.” You have to get out there and do something about it. Ramit offers suggestions on how to test your ideas and do some work up front, before you commit a lot of time and money to a path that might not be right for you. Here are a few of his suggestions of how to do that:

Build relationships. Get to know people in the space you’re interested in. Use your alumni centers and LinkedIn to figure out who to connect with. Send an email to introduce yourself and make the effort to meet them in person.

Be specific. Since you’ve already done a lot of preliminary research on the fields you’re interested in, you can ask specific questions of your new contacts so that you can truly understand the lay of the land. This will be the best use of their time and yours.

It takes great effort, time and energy to act on a grey mindset. Invest in yourself, it’s worth it!
